Your Connection To Controlling Window Fashions With Home Automation Systems

Home Automation For Window Fashions
Home automation is becoming increasing popular with today’s consumers as a way to connect and control lights, heating, cooling, audio and video equipment and other devices to a centralized control. People are improving their quality of life by automating lighting, heating and cooling, home entertainment and more. Hunter Douglas has introduced a new serial interface that will provide your customers with even more control when they automate Hunter Douglas window coverings along with these other items.

The Hunter Douglas serial interface is for use with these hardwired motorized products:

  • Duette Motorized EasyRise (24v)

  • Electric-Powered Motorized Silhouette Window Shadings (12v)

  • Electric-Powered Motorized Vignette Window Shadings (12v)

This interface is not designed for use with PowerRise® products or with any other
Hunter Douglas motorization system other than those listed above.

Connects to Major Brands
The Hunter Douglas serial interface is your connection to the growing home automation market. It enables control of Hunter Douglas window coverings by handheld remote controls, sensors, touch panels, timers, remote computers and "scenes" or "modes" (daytime, nighttime, movie, etc.). The control options are provided by home automation professionals and will vary according to the manufacturer of the home automation equipment. The serial interface connects to all major brands of home automation equipment including Crestron, Lite Touch, HAI, AMX and more.

Specify Switch Control — Add Serial Interface
To use the serial interface with these systems, specify the switch control versions as detailed in the Hunter Douglas Reference guide. Add the serial interface to control the shades through a home automation system. Provide the device to home automation experts that are installing this equipment to control other devices throughout the home. Home automation professionals will be very comfortable using the serial interface, which connects to controllers using a standard RS232 connector.

RS232 Connector

As shown in the illustration at right, the serial interface connects between the home automation controller and the motorized window coverings. The signals from the controller are communicated to the window coverings via the interface. The standard 12V or 24V power supply used with these products provides power to both the serial interface and the window coverings.

Up to four window coverings can be operated using a single serial interface. Multiple interfaces can be connected to most home automation controllers. The interface allows for both individual and group operation of the window coverings. Like other motorization components, it is covered by a five-year Hunter Douglas Limited Warranty.
