Used
to be that you couldn't do a Duette honeycomb shade with
UltraGlide on sidelights or other small windows because
the smallest size available was too wide.
Now all
that has changed along with many other restrictions and UltraGlide can fit where you need it. |
NOTE:
The specifications contained in this tip are now in effect
at Designer Blinds, but they are NOT currently shown in
the Hunter Douglas Reference Guide. An update to the
Reference Guide will be released this Fall that will
include these new specifications. |
On the surface,
Duette shades with UltraGlide look as good as they ever did, but
many improvements have been made. The internal mechanism
that allows cords to always retract to the same length and all
other internal components have been redesigned. You'll find
UltraGlide is still a smooth operator, but you'll also notice that
it is more robust and reliable than ever. Because of the
component changes, the specifications have changed for the better,
too. Here's a rundown of what has changed. New
Minimum Width
For
Standard Operation: 12 Inches (IM)
For
Top-Down/Bottom-Up: 18 Inches (IM)
New technology has allowed UltraGlide shades to fit in far
narrower spaces than before. The old minimum width was
18" and meant that other cording techniques would have to be
used for narrower windows. The new minimum of 12"
(Inside Mount) means that UltraGlide fit into smaller spaces than
before. For
Top-Down/Bottom-Up operation the old minimum width was
27". Now, you'll be happy to know that you can go down
to 18" (Inside Mount) with operation of both rails. If
you want Top-Down operation in a sidelight or other narrow
windows, consider an UltraGlide Top-Down only shade, which can be
made as narrow as standard operation UltraGlide shades. New
Maximum Height: 120"
As the widths have gotten
narrower, the lengths have gotten longer. Now Duette shades
with UltraGlide can be made up to 120" in height, considerably
better than the previous maximum height of 96". All in
all, you can take UltraGlide places you never have before.
Top-Down/Bottom-Up
Shades Are More Easily Adjustable:
If you've ever leveled the middle rail, or the "top-down
rail" for a Top-Down/Bottom-Up Ultraglide shade, I'm sure you
found it took a considerable amount of time. No more.
Now the adjustment for leveling the top-down rail is as easy as
adjusting the pocket and ferule system on the bottom rail, in fact
it's the same. Now the cords that support the top-down rail
are finished off with the same pocket and ferule system and can be
adjusted to accommodate windows that are out of square very
quickly by simply removing the ferule from the pocket as shown
below and raising or lowering the rail by moving the ferule along
the cord s shown below.
After
the ferule has been adjusted the cord can be trimmed. It is
best to leave a little in case further adjustments are needed
throughout the life of the shade. But you don't want dangling
cords showing on that moving rail. Here's a great way to leave
enough for any adjustment and keep it under control. Leave enough
cord to reach the slotted area along the edges of the rail and
simply press the cord into the slot as shown below. It will
stay nicely. This technique can also be used on bottom rails
for UltraGlide and PowerRise shades that are adjusted using the
pocket and ferule system.
