Working the
BUGS OUT!

A Regular, Easy "Dusting" With Compressed Air
Keeps Silhouette® Shadings Looking Great!

Important Notice: Do Not Use Electrostatic Wipes To Dust Silhouette Shadings! (click here for details)

There are few things in the world that can detract from the sheer beauty and performance of Silhouette window shadings.  Depending on where you live, though, you may find that certain types of bugs will occasionally wend their way inside a Silhouette shading to make their home.  With regular maintenance, it's even easier than dusting the end tables to work the bugs out of Silhouette shading.  Forget about pulling out the hair dryer and finding a place to plug it in, as the Reference Guide used to suggest.  The way to do it is with a can of compressed gas duster--often referred to as "canned air".  These cleaners are commonly used for cleaning computers and other electronic devices with a blast of air, but they are also a perfect solution for Silhouette.

With the nozzle in place, spray in from the
end or right through the sheer facing to aim directly at any bugs before they get settled
Take the nozzle off to give the entire face of the shading a dusting on a regular basis.

Use It For More Than Just Bugs!
With a long nozzle, it is easy to focus a blast of air to get rid of any bugs.  On narrower shadings, you can blow it in from the end of the shade.  On wider shadings, focus the air right through the sheer facing, aiming directly at bugs before they get settled. But don't wait for the bugs to take up residence before you pull out the canned air.  Remove the nozzle and spray along the face of the shading --just as if you were using a dust cloth.  By using the compressed air to regularly clean the face of the shading, you'll keep it free of dust and prevent the spotting that can result from bugs that have made your shading their final resting place.

Sales Tip: Provide a can of compressed air to your customers who buy Silhouette shadings.  It's a great way to set realistic expectations in a positive way.  Use it to close the sale —it's a little thing that can blow the competition away, too!

These techniques work well for maintaining Nantucket shadings, Luminette® Privacy Sheers®, Duette® & Applause® honeycomb shades too.

Important Notice:
Do NOT use Electrostatic Wipes
To Clean Silhouette Shadings!
Can Damage Light-Dimming Fabrics
of Bon Soir™ and Misty Harbor
Do NOT use electrostatic wipes such as  Swiffer™ or the Pledge Grab-It™ to clean or dust Silhouette or Nantucket shadings.  With the light-dimming fabrics of Silhouette Bon Soir™ and Nantucket Misty Harbor™, use of these new cleaning devices has proved to be damaging.  The electrostatic charge of these products can cause the light dimming vane layer to degrade, resulting in light penetration and spotting.  Hunter Douglas does NOT endorse the use of any electrostatic cleaning product on any Silhouette or Nantucket shading.  This would include dusting with dryer sheets, which many homeowners use to dust metal, wood and faux wood horizontal blinds.  Make sure to advise your customers against using these otherwise fine cleaning products on Silhouette shadings.
