Fixed-Slat Specialty Wood Blinds
A Quick and Easy
Solution for Specialty Windows
with Country Woods® 2" Blinds or Beyond Woods®
There are several options for specialty windows
using Hunter Douglas wood blinds. This article focuses in on the fixed-slat
method, a versatile approach to treating many kinds of specialty
windows. The slats remain in a fixed position, usually tilted up at a
45° angle. Light is cascaded into the room from above, reducing
the heat and glare of unwanted light. Fixed-slat specialty blinds
also protect furnishings and provide privacy while still adding to the
charm of specialty shapes like these:

Easy
Installation
Fixed-slat specialty
blinds are the easiest of all specialty applications to install.
Usually they are inside-mounted, which is what most people want for
specialty shaped windows. They can be adapted to work as an
outside mount, though. Call Designer Blinds with specific details
if you wish to install a fixed-slat specialty blind as an outside mount.
The blinds are simply snapped into place using the same brackets that
are used as hold-down brackets.
The toughest part of the installation is
assembling the components —which really isn't hard at all. The
picture at left shows an unassembled octagon right out of the box. It is
composed of two slotted upright rails and the slats. For arches,
triangles and trapezoids the slotted uprights are attached to the bottom
rail. The rails and uprights are marked at Designer Blinds before
the product is shipped to make it easy to match. Slats are
packaged in the order in which they need to be inserted into the slots
of the blind. For polygons (octagons and hexagons), ovals and full
circles, the uprights are attached directly to the window and then the
slats are put in place.

For
triangles, trapezoids and arches, some slats
will be held by just one upright. The slot holds
the slats tightly, but occasional adjustment may be necessary. |
Template
Required
As with any specialty
treatment handcrafted by Designer Blinds, a template or pattern of the
window needs to be provided with the order. A complete
template-making kit including everything you need to make and send a
perfect template for any specialty shaped window is available from
Designer Blinds for a small fee.
